Salle Patino. Geneva, Switzerland, 1982. Jackie
Planeix and Tom Crocker present their first evening of dance/theatre
works. They adopt the moniker ‘Bluepalm’, dreaming of
an idyllic island where their imaginations can flow freely. Over
twenty years later, Bluepalm continues to share the results of its
utopian quest, creating a life from art and making an art out of
life.
Jackie Planeix and Tom Crocker are graduates of the European Arts
Institute, MUDRA, in Brussels, Belgium, directed by French choreographer
Maurice Béjart, where they studied dance, theater, music,
improvisation and interdisciplinary composition. Upon graduation,
Ms. Planeix and Mr. Crocker toured the world with the Béjart
Ballet, performing in such venues as the La Scala de Milano, the
Bolshoi, the Comédie Française in Paris, Broadway’s
Minskoff Theater and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. It was as
dancers with Oscar Araiz’s company at the Grand Théâtre
de Genève (Switzerland) that Ms. Planeix and Mr. Crocker
created their original works as Bluepalm.
Ms. Planeix and Mr. Crocker have collaborated on
over twenty dance/theater pieces (see complete listing under Creations).
They are also internationally renowned teachers of dance, theater
and interdisciplinary performance techniques. Ms. Planeix and Mr.
Crocker received the diplôme d’enseignement from the
French ministry of Culture, are California Arts Council Touring
Roster artists and recipients of the L.A. Weekly Performance/Creation
award for their exposé of life in the arts, “Dance
Talks!”
From their earliest collaborative works, Ms. Planeix and Mr. Crocker
have expressed their personal and cultural perceptions via performance.
When experience proved that their artistic method could be utilized
as an effective educational tool, Ms. Planeix and Mr. Crocker began
establishing in-depth partnerships with schools, conservatories
and cultural centers. In 2003, Bluepalm expanded its ranks to include
the talents of other professional Art Educators. (see
Art at the Center of Education)
